[cabfpub] CAB Forum Guidance on Deprecation of Internal Server Names

I really don’t think any ballot is needed to post something on our website that has been reviewed and discussed at multiple face to face meetings and calls. Brad did a great job writing it and offered it to the CABF members without restriction. If someone has a problem with the document, please speak now. Otherwise, let’s put it up Monday.

I’m not sure, and I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. It was discussed a year ago. If we can do an abbreviated (one business day), unanimous consent ballot (any veto throws it into a two-week cycle), then the ballot might read:

Dean Coclin made the following motion, which was endorsed by Kirk Hall and Chris Palmer:

Motion Begins

Effective immediately, the CA/Browser Forum reaffirms "Internal Server Names and IP Address Requirements for SSL: Guidance on the Deprecation of Internal Server Names and Reserved IP Addresses, June 2012, Version 1.0" as its public guidance on this issue and approves its posting on the CAB Forum web site.

Motion Ends

This ballot is by one-business-day unanimous consent. Any opposition received within such period will trigger a 7-day review-and-comment period followed by a 7-day voting period to be held in accordance with the CAB Forum ByLaws. Notice of any national holidays within the next full business day of any member must be raised in response to this ballot or else such objection is deemed waived.

I meant to be the second endorser – but I don’t think we really need a formal Ballot on this, do we?

Assuming we have Brad’s permission, does anyone object to posting it on the CABF website cabforum.org?

A second endorser is needed.

I agree – seconded.

Given the number of inquiries we have received on this topic, I move that we post this to the website as soon as possible under Documents with an announcement on the main page.

As discussed during a previous teleconference, here is Brad’s white paper on the deprecation of internal server names. Assuming it is acceptable, we should post it on our web site. I’ll put the PDF and DOC on the wiki.
