We think that Tom Albertson's analysis and proposed way forward, as
posted to the private list, contains much wisdom.

As a (albeit non-lawyer) member of the IPR working group I share the
responsibility for the bugs in IPR v.1.0. However, we have to continue
from where we are, not where we wish we were.

I lament the thousands of man hours of the time of smart people in this
Forum which has been spent, not improving the security of the internet,
but trying to work around and keep our work free from government-granted
monopolies on certain methods of doing so. It is striking that recent
analyses of the costs of the patent system do not even include this type
of wastage.
