From wthayer at godaddy.com Thu Sep 18 16:05:00 2014 From: wthayer at godaddy.com (Wayne Thayer) Date: Thu, 18 Sep 2014 23:05:00 +0000 Subject: [cabfperf] Winding Down the Performance Working Group Message-ID: This group was formed with the intent of developing best practice recommendations for optimizing the performance of SSL. At the Eilat F2F meeting, it was decided that this group would document performance recommendations that have been discussed, but there are now a number of excellent resources covering TLS performance comprehensively, including: https://istlsfastyet.com/ https://www.feistyduck.com/books/bulletproof-ssl-and-tls/ With these references available, I feel that publishing another document is a redundant exercise. There are also some CA-specific items that have been discussed, including: - minimize the length of the certificate chain - minimize the size of the Issuer field - minimize the number of SANs - choose a reasonable key size - reduce data required to be included in EV certificates Unfortunately there was no consensus on any of these topics, so while they are good things to consider, they aren't candidates for updates to any CAB Forum requirements documents. My conclusion from all of this, and from the lack of activity on the mailing list is that there is no reason to continue this working group. I propose that we disband the Performance Working Group, and I'll take a lack of responses on this list as agreement. If you do have ideas for work items that we should be addressing, please raise them now. Thanks, Wayne -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
